ROCK HILL, S.C. – No. 3 Coastal Carolina's Brittany Birnbaum posted an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Lady Chanticleers to a 1-0 win over No. 5 Birmingham-Southern, Friday afternoon in game six of the 2008 Big South Softball Championship at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – No. 1 Winthrop (33-17) moved two runners across in the bottom half of the sixth inning to lift the homestanding Eagles to a 3-2 win over No. 5 Birmingham-Southern (32-27), Thursday afternoon in game three of the 2008 Big South Softball Championship at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C. The Panthers move to the consolation bracket with the loss and play again tomorrow, May 9, at 12:30 p.m. ET to face No. 3 Coastal Carolina.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The fifth-seeded Birmingham-Southern softball team scored an upset in the first round of the 2008 Big South Conference Softball Championship, Thursday, defeating No. 4 Liberty, 2-1, at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C. The Panthers move to 32-26 with the win and will face No. 1 Winthrop this afternoon at 3 p.m. ET, while Liberty drops to 17-39-1 and will play either No. 3 Coastal Carolina or No. 6 Charleston Southern tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.

BSC’s Gafinkle announces 2008 football commitments

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Head Football Coach Eddie Garfinkle announced on Thursday the list of 39 student-athletes who have completed their initial enrollment and committed to play for Panthers in 2008. The class includes 36 incoming freshmen and three junior college transfers.

Four Panthers earn All-Big South Conference Softball honors; BSC opens tournament play Thursday

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Seniors Lindsay Creighton, Bethney Reynoldson, and Grace Stokes, and junior Melissa Muehlenfeld earned All-Big South Conference Softball honors, announced Wednesday evening in Rock Hill, S.C., at the league’s annual awards banquet. All four players were named Second-Team All-Conference, and Creighton was also named to the All-Academic Team.
