Birmingham-Southern Athletic Training
The Birmingham-Southern Athletic Training Department offers complete medical and sports medicine coverage to all student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletic events on BSCs campus, including visiting student-athletes. The staff provides total care; including education, prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of all student-athletes and their injuries.
The main athletic training room is housed in the Student Services building attached to Bill Battle Coliseum. There are four satellite athletic training rooms located at the basketball courts, football field, softball park, and baseball field. The facilities feature a wide variety of therapeutic modalities including electrical muscle stimulation, cryotherapy, ultrasound, hydrotherapy and several manual therapeutic exercise materials.
The staff consists of three full-time, certified athletic trainers. They are certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification, and licensed by the state of Alabama.
The health and well-being of our students and our student-athletes is our No.1 priority, BSC Athletics Director Joe Dean Jr. said. In order to achieve optimal health and performance athletically, you must have quality healthcare, particularly with regards to athletic injuries. Our athletic training staff takes their jobs as care-takers of our student-athletes very seriously, and, as a result, does their jobs very well.
Birmingham-Southern College Athletic Training is honored to be associated with Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, where it has access to some of the finest doctors and medical staffs in the Southeast, if not the nation. Some of those include: Dr. James Andrews, Dr. Larry Lemak, Dr. Jose Ortega, Dr. Ray Browne and their staffs. BSC is also honored to have a long-standing relationship for student-athlete care with Dr. Morton Goldfarb and his staff.
