BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern junior midfielder Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) of women’s lacrosse and Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) were named the BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week for their performance in competition April 8-14.
Cox scored 12 goals in two games last week, including a season-high eight goals in a 25-21 win over Hendrix on Saturday. She scored four goals in a home loss to Reinhardt but doubled her goal tally in the regular-season finale against the Warriors, adding six ground balls and 12 draw controls. Cox’s final goal on Saturday was her 76th of the season, making her the program’s single-season goals record-holder. She is currently second in the SAA in goals scored.
Crumpton struck out 10 batters en route to a perfect game against Millsaps on senior day. She picked up two wins this week, both shutouts, and allowed just one hit. She finished with a 0.00 ERA and batters averaged 0.033 against her. The lefty ranks nationally in eight different categories, including fourth in saves, and 13th in strikeouts and victories. She also leads the league in six categories.
