BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern senior Ryder Andrews (Homewood, Ala./Homewood HS) of football and junior Tristan Sumpter (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge HS) of men’s swimming were named BSC/Piggly Wiggly Student-Athletes of the Week for their performance in competition October 29 – November 4.
Andrews was perfect in the Panthers' 34-17 win over Millsaps. He was 4-for-4 in point after kicks and went 2-for-2 in field goals. Andrews broke his previous program record by drilling a 52-yarder to open scoring in the first quarter. He also had three punts for 126 yards, a 42-yard average with a long of 46. Finally, Andrews had seven kickoffs for 399 yards, a 57 yard average, with one touchback.
Sumpter helped lead men’s swimming and diving to a 137-124 win over Rhodes on Saturday, taking first place in two events. He won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.22 and took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:01.23.
