BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Director of Athletics Kyndall Waters has announced the hiring of Demetrius Bailey as the departments strength and conditioning coach. This is a new position at BSC. Bailey will work with the coaching staffs to prepare all 475-plus student-athletes to be competitive in their respective sports.
"I'm very excited to announce the addition of a strength and conditioning coach to the athletic staff here at Birmingham-Southern," said Waters. "Finding Demetrius is really the icing on the cake. To be able to find someone with his experience, professionalism, character, and enthusiasm speaks volumes."
Most recently the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of West Florida, Bailey also spent time working at Samford University assisting with the supervision and execution of the strength training programs for all sports.
A 2014 graduate of the University of Alabama, Bailey earned his master of science from the University of West Florida in May of 2018. He is a certified CSCCa strength and conditioning coach, a NSCA certified strength and conditioning specialist, an EXOS performance specialist, an ACSM certified exercise physiologist, and CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
"I want to thank head coaches Jan Weisberg, Kenneth Cox, and Kimball Cassady, as well as Rachel Morris, our head athletic trainer, for assisting in the hiring process, and for finding such a qualified and engaging candidate for this position," said Waters. "It has been a piece of the puzzle that has been missing for some years, and being able to offer this for our student-athletes and coaches allows us to provide a more well-rounded and professional performance program."
