CONWAY, S.C. – Heading into the Big South Conference Championship semifinals, the fourth-ranked Birmingham-Southern volleyball team landed four players on the 2005 All-Conference squads, announced Friday evening at the league's annual volleyball awards banquet, held at ild Wing Plantation in Conway, S.C. Freshman libero Alex Plummer received first-team All-Conference and All-Freshman honors, senior right side Cassie Reed was named to the All-Big South second team, freshman setter Kelsey King was named to the All-Freshman team, and senior middle blocker Sarah Martin made the Academic All-Conference squad.
Plummer, who is BSC's second straight libero first-team honoree, leads the Panthers and is tied for first in the Big South this season with 4.92 digs per game. She recorded double-digit digs in 25 matches this season, posting 12 20-dig and two 30-dig matches, including a season- and career-high 35 in four games against Coastal Carolina,

Sept. 30. Plummer was named to the Samford Invitational and BSC Challenge All-Tournament teams earlier this season.
Reed is second on the team and sixth in the Big South with a .270 hitting percentage. She posted four double-doubles this season, as well as nine double-digit kills and eight double-digit digs matches. Reed also posted 46 assists and 39 blocks this season.
King leads the squad and is ranked third in the Big South with 11.86 assists per game. She recorded a double-double in her first collegiate game with 10 kills and 39 assists against South Alabama, Aug. 26, and followed that up with a triple-double in her second collegiate game with 12 kills, 34 assists, and 11 digs against Morehead State, Sept. 2. King has posted 12 double-doubles this season and one triple-double, with seven 50-assist matches and one 60-assist match this year, and was a two-time Big South Freshman of the

Martin is an accounting major with a 3.827 cumulative grade point average who averaged 2.12 kills per game this season and amassed 45 blocks. She posted double-digit kills five times this season, including a season-high 14 kills, twice.
Coastal Carolina outside hitter Katherine Jensen-Spencer and Coastal head coach Kristen Bauer were voted Player and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Winthrop setter Chandra Ginest was named Freshman of the Year, as voted by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Jensen-Spencer was also named Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the sports information directors.
The 2005 Big South Volleyball Championship continues at Kimbel Arena on the campus of Coastal Carolina University this weekend, with the semifinals

on Saturday, Nov. 19 as No. 1 Winthrop takes on No. 4 Birmingham-Southern at 2:00 p.m. EST, followed by No. 2 Coastal Carolina and No. 3 UNC Asheville facing off at 5:00 p.m. EST. The title match is slated for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. EST, with the winner receiving the Big South's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
