BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team posted the best single round for an 18 hole course in the school's history at the 2008 TVA Credit Union Tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama.

The men shot a combinded 279 in the second round of the tournament, a nine-under par on the day.  The previous record of 276 was shot at the par 71 Bent Brook course where the team went eight-under.

Coach Tom Miller had this to say, "The first day the weather conditions were difficult, especially early in the day, and the guys didn't handle them very well.  The weather was much better during the second round, and they really played great.  We had three rounds in the 60s for the first time ever, and we didn't even count our number one player's score.  Two of our freshmen, Matt Kelly and Josh Rabbit, both shot 68, and another, Matthew Barnes, shot 75 playing as an individual.  So, the future looks bright as we continue to transition to full D-III eligibility."

The Panthers will wrap-up their 2008-09 schedule two Saturday's from now, October 25, at the Lehigh Invitational at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Penn.
