LOUISVILLE, Ky. The Birmingham-Southern men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Greater Louisville Classic this weekend, with the women finishing fifth and the men finishing sixth.

"The men had a solid performance with several personal records and one top ten performance," head coach Lars Porter said. "Forrest Boughner ran 26:03, just 25 seconds off the school record to finish 10th in the 25-team, 300-athlete race. Justin Leach and Blake McDaniel rounded out the top three with sub-27-minute marks. Both Reed Kramer and Alex Darden posted personal best times with splits of 28:49 and 30:38. With James Watters out sick, we were really missing our fourth man.

"Under Mary Elaine Williamson's continued leadership, the women placed fifth as a team," Porter continued. "Williamson placed fifth overall with a time of 12:12. Caitlin Hodges, Emily Moore, and Maggie Zernick supported her with sub-21-minute times. Katie Sack rounded out the top five at 21:08.

"On the whole it was a good day," Porter said. "I was especially impressed with the performances from Forrest, Mary Elaine, Blake, and Reed. Now that we're into October, they are all showing that they are ready to race."

BSC hosts the Great American Cross Country Festival this Saturday, Oct. 11, at Spain Park Athletic Complex in Hoover. The men race at 10:10 a.m. and the women race at 11:10 a.m. For more information, visit the Festival's official web site.
