BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Birmingham-Southern Director of Golf and Men's Golf Coach Tom Miller has announced his retirement from the golf program and the College.

Miller rekindled varsity golf on the Hilltop in 2001 and has served as Director of Golf since 2003. While varsity men's golf existed at Birmingham-Southern in different spurts in both the pre-World War II era and again in the mid-1960s, the reinvention of Panther men's golf, and the founding of BSC women's golf, can be credited almost solely to Miller's leadership.

He began in the 2000-01 year laying the foundation for the varsity golf program by recruiting and planning for the inaugural season in 2001-02. Miller started at Birmingham-Southern as both the men's and women's head coach, a role in which he served for two seasons.

Miller joined the BSC athletic staff after retiring from BellSouth, where he had a 27-year management career in the marketing and information systems organizations. Married to the former Renee Moore, Miller and his wife have two children, Kevin, who resides with his wife in San Francisco, and Chris, who is a graduate from Auburn University Veterinarian School and is now practicing in Washington, D.C., where he and his wife are veterinarians.
