BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Birmingham-Southern Panthers defeated the visiting Huntingdon College Hawks, 2-1, at BSC Soccer Park on Wednesday night. The match was the first meeting for the two schools in 12 years, the last match coming in the 1997 season. The Panthers improve to 10-2-1 on the season while Huntingdon slips to 3-10-0.

The Panthers controlled the game completely from the word go, but were unable to convert several chances into points. BSC got off 14 shots in the frame. Garner Shivers got the Panthers on the board late in the first half off a nice cross from Tyler Evans to put BSC up 1-0 at the half. It was Shivers' seventh of the season.

Evans and Shivers connected again at the start of the second half, in reverse this time, giving Evans his 13th goal on the season.  The Panthers held on to the 2-0 lead deep into the period thanks to the 'Southern defense holding stong on the far side of the pitch.

The Hawks got on the board late in the game when Andrew Stein drew a red card in the box to allow Scott Best to score on the penalty kick with just over eight minutes to play.

BSC will be on the road this weekend for a single match with Millsaps.  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Jackson.
