Panthers fall to Millsaps, 38-20, in season finale

JACKSON, Miss. –
Behind a career-high 336-yard performance from quarterback Chris Graves, Millsaps College defeated Birmingham-Southern, 38-20, Saturday, at Harper Davis Field.

The Majors move to 7-3, while the Panthers drop to 4-6. BSC leads the all-time series 14-4-3.

Millsaps scored twice in the first quarter on a 25-yard run by Kenny Metzger and a one-yard pass from Graves to Alex Wills. BSC cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter on a six-yard run by junior quarterback Joe Thigpen, and Millsaps took the seven-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

Millsaps put a field goal and another touchdown on the board in the third quarter on a 37-yard kick by Taylor Russolino and a seven-yard run by Shane Bowser to go up 24-7.

The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter as freshman halfback Shawn Morris made a seven-yard run to cut the lead to 24-14, but Millsaps responded with a one-yard run by Josh Gast. Morris found the end zone again on the next scoring drive on a two-yard run, but the Majors scored the final touchdown of the game on a six-yard pass from Graves to John Milazzo for the 38-20 win.

Graves was 27-of-39 with two touchdowns, 336 yards, and one interception by sophomore Zac Napier. Michael Galatas led with 104 receiving yards on four catches, and Bowser led with 68 yards rushing and one touchdown on 14 carries, followed by Metzger with 67 yards and a touchdown, also on 14 carries. Will Hawkins led with 17 tackles (8 solo, 9 assisted).

Thigpen was 8-of-14 with 97 yards, while Morris and junior tailback Walter Arrington each ran for 90 yards. Morris also scored two touchdowns and had 24 carries. Arrington also led with 62 yards on four catches. Sophomore Dustin Massey led with 11 tackles (5 solo, 6 assisted), and junior Patrick Thomas recorded 10 tackles (5 solo, 5 assisted), including two for-loss. Junior Jeremy Jones recorded two sacks, and Napier had an interception.
