KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has released its list of the 2009 NSCAA College Team Academic Award winners. Birmingham-Southern is one of only 99 schools in the country to have both teams (men’s and women’s) represented on the list.

To qualify, the team must have a combined G.P.A. of 3.0 or better for the current academic year. There were 575 teams recognized across all levels of collegiate competition (NAIA, NCAA I, II, and III).

The Panthers made a strong showing with the women coming in at a combined 3.18 G.P.A. and the men at 3.10.

Coach Walton had this to say, “This award is something that as a program we are extremely proud of.  Every year as a team we set a team academic goal of a 3.0 or higher, so for us to accomplish this goal is a huge.  It shows all the hard work and pride that these girls put into not just soccer but their academics as well.”

Coach Goldfarb was equally proud of his team’s effort. “This is just another example of the kind of excellence we expect and get out of our teams here at Birmingham-Southern. Producing wins on the field while maintaining a high standard in the classroom, especially at a school as rigorous as BSC, shows the dedication and hard work of our young men in all aspects of their college careers.”
