KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named BSC senior captain Lydia Rice to the 2009 All-South Atlantic Region Second Team for her accomplishments on the pitch for the Panthers this season.

The Tupelo, Miss. native anchored the Panther defense during her final season on the Hilltop. Playing in 19 games,  she helped the Panthers achieve a 1.2 goal per game advantage over their opponents. Lydia also performed flawlessly in penalty kicks for the Panthers, scoring on both attempts she got this season. She scored the game-winner at SCAC rival Millsaps in October.

Coach Benji Walton on his star defender: "I am thrilled for Lydia. She has given everything that she has to this program for four years and in my opinion has been one of the best players in our conference and region during that time. I am glad that the coaches in our region have recognized her talent and performance this year. She is a kid that doesn't ask for recognition but in this case she definitely deserves it. She will go down as one of the best defenders to play at BSC and I am proud that she has been recognized for all of her hard work."

The full list of honorees is available from the NSCAA here.
