BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC Men's Lacrosse team dropped a tough one tonight to Washington & Jefferson College, 14-13 in overtime.  The loss drops BSC to 1-5 on the season while WJC improves to 2-1.

The Panthers scored the first goal at the 13:56 mark when Dylan Krupa connected with Jacob McPherson to take the early lead.  The Presidents struck back one minute later and the two teams continued to trade goals for the remainder of the first quarter.  Washington & Jefferson took the slim one-goal advantage into the second off a last-minute goal to lead 4-3 after one.

The second quarter went much the same way, with the Panthers tieing the score at 4-4, 5-5, and 6-6 before the Presidents unloaded two goals in the final three minutes of the half to take the 6-8 lead into the halftime break.

BSC made a move at the end of the third quarter, scoring five unanswerd goals in the last four minutes of the quarter to retake the lead 12-11.  McPherson bookended the run with a goal at 4:16 and 0:07, Ryan Croft scored with 1:28 reamining while DJ Ward netted two less than seven seconds apart at 3:06 and 2:59.

WJC picked up the evener three-and-a-half minutes in to tie the game at 12 and the fourth quarter dragged on with neither team able to break the stalemate.  The Panthers' attack finally broke through with 2:37 remaining in the game when Christopher Buechele got the unassisted goal to put the Panthers up 13-12.  It seemed that the Panthers were going to collect the second victory in program history if they could just hold out, but the Presidents weren't done.  WJC's Zach Devilbiss found the side of the Panther cage with just seven seconds left on the board.  The goal sent the game into overtime where the Presidents road the momentum wave into an early overtime goal just 32 seconds into the extra time.

WJC snatched 45 ground balls to the Panthers' 41 in the game, though BSC outshot the Presidents 42-39.  Both teams were relatively even on turnovers with WJC committing one more 32-31.  Panther goalie Ben Jacob collected 13 saves in 60:32, going the complete game for 'Southern in the cage.  Brian Cummins pulled in 15 saves for WJC on the night.

The Panthers will return to action next Wednesday night, March 18th, as they will host Carthage College for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
