Women's Lacrosse falls to Kenyon College, 19-10

SEWANEE, Tenn. -
The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team lost to Kenyon College, 19-10, Sunday in Sewanee, Tenn.

The two teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the game, with BSC's goals coming from Chelsea Van Voorhis and Lyndsay Griffin, for a 2-2 tie. Three straight goals from Kenyon pushed the lead to 5-2, but Van Voorhis and Griffin struck again to cut the lead to 5-4. Kenyon answered again, however, with three straight goals again and led 8-4 at the half.

Ashley Johnson scored two quick goals for BSC to open the second half and cut the lead to 8-6, but Kenyon scored four straight to go up 12-6. Alexis Sweda and Johnson were able to find the net after that to cut it to 12-8, and Kenyon scored again after that, but so did BSC (another goal from Griffin) to bring the score to 13-9 in favor of Kenyon. Three more goals from Kenyon pushed the lead to 16-9 before the Panthers' final score of the game from Griffin, and KC scored three more down the stretch to win 19-10.

Goalkeeper Katie Bates made eight saves in the game.

The Panthers' next games are in California next week as they travel to face Oberlin College at Pomona-Pitzer College, University of Redlands, and Pomona-Pitzer, March 22, 24, and 26.
