ASHLAND, Va. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team fell on the road tonight to Randolph-Macon College, 20-9. The Panthers drop to 3-6 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets move to 4-2.
Jacob McPherson registered an unassisted goal just 30 seconds into the contest to open the scoring and put BSC up 1-0, but R-MC responded with four consecutive goals. The Panthers clawed their way back, though, netting three goals in the final 4:05 of the first quarter to tie the game 4-4.
The Yellow Jackets scored twice to open the second quarter and go up 6-4. After the Panthers responded with a tally of their own, R-MC scored eight unanswered goals to enter halftime with a 14-5 lead.
The Yellow Jackets yielded a pair of goals to begin the second half, but were able to score two of their own to give Randolph-Macon an 18-7 lead with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Both squads would tally two goals in the final 8:45 of regulation as the Yellow Jackets prevailed with the 20-9 win.
McPherson ended the game with three goals and led the team with nine ground balls. Cameron Overton made 11 saves for the Panthers in goal.
BSC stays on the road for its next game, traveling to face Colorado College this Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m. MT in Colorado Springs, Colo.
