CONWAY, Ark. -
On a rain-soaked Saturday, the No. 17 Birmingham-Southern softball team (30-5) achieved its second straight 30-win season, Saturday, with a 7-1 win against Hendrix College. The game was called early due to heavy rain and lightning, and game two of the doubleheader was canceled. The teams will play again tomorrow at noon.

The Panthers scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI single by freshman Ashley Bice. BSC scored three more in the top of the third on an RBI triple by senior Kayla Backlund, an RBI ground-out by junior Jena Franks, and an RBI double by junior Tori Harris.

Hendrix finally got on the board in the bottom of the third with a home run. An RBI single by Backlund in the top of the fourth gave the Panthers a 6-1 lead, and an RBI single by senior Erin Glover put them up 7-1.

The game was called in the top of the sixth with one out on the board due to inclement weather, and the Panthers came away with the 7-1 victory.

Freshman Ronni Ferris picked up the win in the circle after pitching five innings and giving up five hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. She moves to 7-1 on the season.

The Panthers and the Warriors will play again tomorrow, April 19, in a noon doubleheader.
