GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team closed out its most successful season since joining Division III this afternoon with a split against Greensboro College. The Panthers won game one 11-4 before falling in game two 3-1. BSC finishes the season with a 28-11 record, besting last season's mark by eight games.
The Panthers put runs up in five of game one's seven innings to take the first game of the double-header.
Sam Hill led the way for the Panthers getting two home runs on the day. The sophomore got four hits and five RBI's in five at bats in the game.
Michael McCalib got the win in five innings. He gave up nine hits and struck out six in 24 batters-faced. The Panthers outhit the Pride 16-11 in the game. Each team had one error.
In game two the Panthers held on to the 1-0 lead into the sixth inning. Hill collected the only RBI for the Panthers in the game, and his sixth of the day, in the third. He drove in
Rand Hutchison with a single to center.
Greensboro finally got on the board in the sixth putting up all three of their runs in their final at-bat. The Panthers were unable to answer in the seventh, and since the double-header was scheduled as two seven-inning games, there was no time left to come back.
The Panthers return to the Hilltop with a 28-11 record on the season. Their 10-5 record in conference play earned them a share of the East Division title even though they were ineligible for post-season play.
