Griffin leads BSC past North Central College, 17-1

Led by freshman Lyndsay Griffin with five goals, the Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated North Central College, 17-1, Friday evening. BSC moves to 5-6 on the season with the win.

The Panthers led 11-0 after the first half of play, with four goals from Griffin in the first 30 minutes, as well as two from freshman Chelsea Van Voorhis, two from freshman Alexis Sweda, and one apiece from sophomore Ashley Johnson, sophomore Brit La Palm, and freshman Katelyn Carroll.

NCC opened the second half of play with its only goal of the game, and the Panthers followed with single goals from Carroll, Sweda, and Griffin, and four straight from sophomore Katie Gregory to close out the game.

Johnson also had three assists, while Griffin led with eight shots and six ground balls.

Overall, BSC out-shot NCC 31-5 and held a 38-23 advantage on ground balls. The Panthers also won 15 of the 20 draw controls in the match, and committed 14 turnovers to NCC's 18.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Bates played all 60 minutes and made two saves.

The Panthers play their last game of the season tomorrow, May 2, against the University of Dallas, hosted by North Central at 3 p.m.
