No. 17 West Florida wins Ann Rhoads 'Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The University of West Florida, ranked 17th in NCAA Division II, won the 2009 Ann Rhoads 'Southern Shootout with a two-round team total of 594, Monday, at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham. Berry College's Jayne Curtis was the individual champion after shooting a 69 today for a two-round total of 142.


Birmingham-Southern finished tied for third overall with Lee University and the University of Mobile with a team score of 635. Junior Ashley Lovell was the top finisher for the Panthers, shooting 71 yesterday and 77 today to place fifth overall.

Jackson State University finished second, 35 strokes behind West Florida. Mobile's Maegan Rice placed second among individual players after shooting a 70 today for a two-round total of 145, followed by West Florida's Bhavna Shetty and Jenny Lines, who also shot a 69 today, with totals of 146. Montevallo's Emily Gibson tied with Lovell at fifth place with a score of 148.

The Panthers are back on the links next weekend at the Huntingdon College Bash at the Beach at Santa Rosa Golf Club in Santa Rosa, Fla.
