Cold shooting plagues Panthers in 84-57 loss to Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Shooting only 25 percent from the field, the Birmingham-Southern women’s basketball team struggled offensively against Colorado College Friday evening, losing on the road, 84-57, to the Tigers. CC moves to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while the Panthers drop to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in the league.
BSC scored the first points of the game on two free throws from sophomore Erin Jackson only 20 seconds in, but Colorado College quickly responded with a three-pointer to take over the lead for good. By the 13:44 mark, the Tigers were up by double digits, 17-6, and achieved their largest lead of the half, 39-17, at the 2:30 mark. At halftime, CC led 42-23.
The second half was more of the same, with the Tigers maintaining a double-digit lead for the entire 20 minutes, leading by as much as 32, 72-40, at the 7:29 mark before eventually winning 84-57.
Five Tigers scored in double digits, led by Collier Clegg with 15 points, and three Tigers led the team with six rebounds apiece. For BSC, freshman Melanie Short was the only player in double digits with 11 points, and she also led with eight rebounds.
BSC was 19-of-76 (25 percent) from the field, 1-of-19 (5.3 percent) from three-point range, and 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) from the free throw line; the Tigers were 31-of-57 (54.4 percent) from the field, 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from beyond the arc, and 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) at the line.
CC held a slight edge in rebounding, 47-43, and committed 10 more turnovers than the Panthers’ 15.
The Panthers travel to Sherman, Texas, this Sunday to take on Austin College at noon.
