BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coach Preston Goldfarb announced the addition of Cory Gonzalez to the Panther Soccer roster for the upcoming 2010 season today.

Cory comes to the Hilltop from John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham. Coached by BSC Soccer alum, David DiPiazza, Cory was team captain for the Cavaliers in his junior year and will again serve as captain in his upcoming senior season. He helped his team to back-to-back 5A State Championships in his sophomore and junior seasons.

As a junior, Cory’s accolades include being named a member of the All-tournament team for the Birmingham Metro, the Alabama High School All-Star team, Birmingham News All-Metro team, and 2009 All-State second team defender. For his sophomore season he made the Second team All-Metro, was an honorable mention for the All-State squad, and made the All-tournament team at the Lakeshore Shootout.

Gonzalez is also a member of the Birmingham United USSF National Developmental Academy team since 2007. His previous club team, the Jets 92 Blue, were 4-time state champions.

Gonzalez is the first commitment for the 2010 class.
