SUWANEE, Ga. - The 2010 SCAC baseball preseason coaches' poll was released by the conference office today and the Birmingham-Southern Panthers were overwhelmingly picked to finish atop the Eastern Division standings with five of six first-place votes.
The Panthers, in the third year of NCAA Division III provisional membership, are still not eligible to compete for a SCAC championship but their games will count in the conference standings. As such, the West's Millsaps Majors were picked to win the 2010 SCAC Championship.
The Panthers finished last season with a 28-11 overall record, and a 10-5 conference mark. They ended up tied for the East Division Championship with the DePauw University Tigers.
The 2010 season will crank up in just over two weeks as the Panthers travel to Montgomery for a pair of games at Huntingdon College. The Panthers open with the Mississippi College Choctaws on Saturday, February 7 at noon. They will follow that later in the day with the Huntingdon College Hawks at 4:00 p.m.
The first home games for the Panthers will be Monday, February 22 with Martin Methodist College at 3:00 p.m. at Striplin Field.
