BSC Baseball receives two commitments
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Head Baseball Coach Jan Weisberg announced that Providence Christian Academy standouts John Walker and Jesse Meier have completed their initial enrollment requirements and committed to play for the Panthers in 2009.
Walker played shortstop while earning three letters under Coach Adam Cantrell at PCA. He has played in 76 career games and ranks fourth all-time with 88 hits, second with 90 runs scored and is tied for first with 17 home runs. Walker is leading the team this season with a .500 average, 26 runs, a .667 on base percentage and is slugging .940. He was selected Gwinnett County Dug Out Player of the Week for March and was voted to the All-County team. Walker holds a 3.0 GPA and has made the Honor Roll the last two semesters.
Meier is a team captain, who has lettered the last three seasons as a pitcher and first baseman. He has amassed a 16-4 record on the mound with a 1.99 ERA, 126 strikeouts and 32 walks in 112.3 innings pitched. Meier was awarded the Vincent J. Dooley Award and was named the Outstanding Senior Athlete in 2008. He set a new school record with a 0.73 ERA as a sophomore and was a First-Team All-County selection in 2007. Meier is a National Beta Club inductee and an Alpha Upsilon member.
