BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Head Baseball Coach Jan Weisberg announced on Wednesday that Blake Walley of Jefferson State Community College has completed his initial enrollment requirements and committed to play baseball for the Panthers in 2009.
Walley shared the starting catching duties in 2006 at Jefferson State before taking over full-time behind the plate in 2008. The Auburn, Ala., native helped the Pioneers to a 37-17 record and to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 20 tournament while hitting .316 and fielding .990.
Before signing with Jeff State, Walley split his high school career between Jackson Central in Jackson, Tenn., and Auburn High School in Auburn, Ala. He started three seasons behind the plate for Coach Matt Cimo at Auburn High School, earning All-Region laurels as a sophomore. Walley helped lead AHS to the second round of the AHSAA 6A state playoffs two times.
