April 7, 2008 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern Head Baseball Coach Jan Weisberg announced on Monday that Zach Dean of Montgomery, Ala., has completed his initial enrollment requirement and committed to play baseball for the Panthers in 2008-09.

Dean is a left handed pitcher and outfielder for Coach Don Gilliam at Alabama Christian Academy, where he will be a four-year letterman and starter following his senior season in 2008. He hit .308 with six doubles, 11 steals and went 6-2 with a 1.75 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 40 innings his junior season.  Dean was selected to the AHSAA All-Star Baseball Team in 2007 and also was a Dixie Lions' Club All-Star. He is a member of the Student Government Association and was tapped into the National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta Society.
