BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Brad Vest tossed a three-hit complete game shutout that included seven strikeouts to lead Huntingdon College (19-15) to a 5-0 win over Birmingham-Southern (16-20) here at Striplin Field on Thursday.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Drew Harrell before pushing the lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Chad Anderson drove in a run with a single and then another run scored when Adam Ship grounded into a double play in the fourth.
Huntingdon added a run in the fifth and six innings to complete the night’s scoring. Dwight Hause singled in a run in the fifth and Dane Vansant singled home a run in the sixth.
Vest improved to 4-1 on the mound for the Hawks. Michael McCalib, 1-2, took the loss for BSC, allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts in three innings.
Clay Jones tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts for BSC. Senior Drew Morris worked two scoreless innings with a strikeout and only allowed one hit.
Sam Hill, Brandon Ricco and Patrick Kimmons accounted for the Panthers’ three hits. Huntingdon College collected 12 hits.
Birmingham-Southern returns to action on Saturday against Maryville College at 12 p.m.
