Rhodes College sweeps Panthers on Saturday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes College (22-8) rallied from a 5-2 deficit to earn a 6-5 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader after taking a 4-0 win in game one against Birmingham-Southern (12-16) on Saturday.
Trailing 5-2, the Lynx plated two in the eighth and two in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win. Right fielder Mason Mosby delivered a two-RBI double in the bottom of the ninth for the game winner.
The Panthers scored a run in the first and two in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. J.D. Hulse reached on an error and later scored on a ground out in the first and Patrick Kimmons singled home two runs in the sixth.
Rhodes would rally with two in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2 before the Panthers put up a pair of runs in the seventh for a 5-2 lead. Bryan Higginbotham had a two-out single and scored on a Sam Hill double and Hill came in on a Drew Leachman single.
Patrick Martin (0-2) gave up two unearned runs on three hits in the ninth to take the loss for BSC. Drew Crofton started and pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Charles Simmons worked the final two innings, allowing no runs on one hit to earn the win for Rhodes.
Andy Holt, 6-3, tossed a complete game four-hit shutout that included five strikeouts in the 4-0 win in game one for RC. BSC starter Ben Lilly, 0-2, also went the distance, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
Leachman, Higginbotham, Kimmons, and Josh Whitaker collected hits for the Panthers.
The series against Rhodes College wraps up with a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 p.m.
