Diamond Panthers split with Rhodes College on Sunday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Drew Leachman went 4-for-5 with six RBI to lead Birmingham-Southern (13-17) to an 11-3 win over Rhodes College (23-9) in game one of a doubleheader at Stauffer Field on Sunday. Rhodes claimed a 20-2 win in the nightcap.
The Panthers scored four runs in the first, three in the second and two in the third and fifth to build an 11-1 lead. Leachman drove in two runs with a single and Patrick Kimmons and Brandon Ricco had RBI singles in the first. Bryan Higginbotham and Leachman delivered RBI singles with Leachman later scoring on a Reed Tuttle sac-fly in the second. Leachman and Ricco, who was 4-for-5 with two RBI, highlighted the third inning with RBI singles. Leachman recorded his sixth RBI with a two-run single in the fifth.
Rhodes plated a run in the fifth and sixth innings to equal the final score of 11-3.
Richard Vance, 2-2, worked six innings with five strikeouts while allowing three runs on nine hits to get the win for BSC. Taylor Babich, 2-1, was the pitcher of record for the Lynx, giving up seven runs on eight hits.
The Lynx scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 20-2 win in game two. The game was called after the seventh due to the NCAA 10-run rule.
J.D. Hulse went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored to lead BSC at the plate. Ricco, Higginbotham and Josh Whitaker each had a hit.
Robert Flanagan, 4-2, struck out eight and allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win for RC. BSC starter Alex Goodsell, 2-5, was roughed up for five runs on six hits in 1/3 of an inning to suffer the loss for BSC.
BSC travels to play the University of the South-Sewanee on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn.
