ATLANTA – The BSC baseball team was unable to complete the series sweep on the road today, falling to the Eagles of Emory University 7-5. The loss drops the Panthers to an even 2-2 on the young season, while the Eagles improved to 1-1.
The Panthers jumped out early, hanging three runs on the Eagles in the top of the first, but that lead would be short-lived. Emory answered with four runs in the second and two more in the third and the Panthers were unable to dig themselves out of the hole in time to come away with the series.
Four walks, two wild pitches and a single into left field allowed the Panthers to add up their three-run first. The Eagles answered with three hits in the second to pass the Panthers for good. The Panthers managed just six hits on the day and committed one error. The Eagles swung for nine hits and fielded cleanly on the day to grind out the win.
Starter Matt Ryckman took the win for the Eagles with four innings of work. He gave up two hits, walked five, and struck out three. Zeb Heidt earned the save in two innings and gave up one Panther run in the top of the eighth. #Michael McCalib# went one and a third innings for the Panthers in the loss, giving up four hits, four runs and two walks.BSC will return to Striplin Field next weekend to host Spalding University.
