Panthers take two on rain-soaked Saturday

Game 1  |  Game 2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Panther Baseball team collected their fourth- and fifth-straight this afternoon, defeating the Wabash College Little Giants 8-2 in the afternoon before topping Huntingdon College 6-1 in the nightcap.  BSC improves to 8-2 with the wins.

Game one got started a full hour after the stated start time thanks to bands of rain passing through the Birmingham earlier in the morning.  The Panthers jumped out quick #JD Hulse# led off the game with a single to short and was driven in three batters later by #Brandon Ricco#  to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.  Hulse plated the second run of the game with his first homerun of the season to lead off the third.  A five-run fifth put the game out of reach for the Little Giants.  #Drew Crofton# went seven innings, giving up seven hits, two runs, and one walk with six strikeouts.  The win pushes him to 3-0 in his decisions.

Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth.  A double from #Darby Weppner# following a walk from #Alex Head# set up a two RBI single from #Patrick Kimmons# which proved to be the game-winning hit.  Three more in the sixth and a final cherry in the eighth summed up the scoring for the Panthers.  Huntingdon spoiled the no-hitter for #John Naramore# (2-0) in the seventh.  The Hawks broke up the shutout in the top of the ninth, but were unable to rally for anymore runs.  Naramore collected the win for BSC after seven solid innings of work.

It was a bad day all-round for the Hawks, as Huntingdon fell in today’s second game 11-7 to the Little Giants from Wabash College.

The Panthers will return, weather permitting, to face Wabash in one final game before wrapping up this weekend series.  First pitch is scheduled for noon at Striplin Field.
