Baseball takes 12-7 win from Tennessee Temple
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Birmingham-Southern (16-4) Panthers defeated Tennessee Temple (10-11) by a score of 12-7 at Striplin Field this afternoon.
The Panthers jumped on the board early, getting #JD Hulse# across the plate after leading off the inning with a walk. There was no offense in the next two innings and everyone had settled in to a quite day at the park.
The Crusaders were not content, however, to leave Birmingham scoreless. They got things going in the top of the fourth. After a lead off double, a Panther error, and a single to third, the Crusaders had the bases loaded for Jonathan Herrera. He then blasted the ball over the retention net into the left field parking lot for the grand slam.
That jolt was all the Panther offense needed to respond. BSC came back with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control of the game. #Drew Leachman# and #Sam Hill# led off the inning with back-to-back home runs to chip into the deficit.
It was errased by the end of the Panther fourth with some less-spectacular, although not ineffective, run production. #Patrick Kimmons# drove in #Darby Weppner# and #Brandon Ricco#. #Jacob Plagens# platted #Blake Walley#. A Crusader error allowed Kimmons to come in for the sixth Panther run of the inning.
#Richard Vance# earns the win on the day for the Panthers, pushing his record to 3-0. He went two-and-two-thirds in the decision. #Drew Crofton# started the game, giving up the grand slam to Herrera. #Frank Mullens#, #Brooks Webb#, and #Zach Dean# all got one inning of work in the game.
The Panthers will take a nine day break before taking the field again. They will return on March 27th to host Oglethorpe University for a weekend series. Game one is slated for 6:30 that Friday.
