Panthers land five on All-SCAC Baseball Team

SUWANEE, Ga. - The SCAC conference office has announced the 2009 All-SCAC Baseball Team.  Darby Weppner, Drew Leachman, Sam Hill, Brandon Ricco, and Clay Malcolm were each selected at their respective positions, and Clay Jones was named an honorable mention. The team was selected by the league's head coaches. 

#Darby Weppner# was selected from the outfield position.  The sophomore from Deerfield Beach, Fla. led the team in batting average at .425 (3rd in SCAC).  He also led the team in RBIs with 53 (2nd in SCAC).

#Drew Leachman# was also selected from the outfield.  The sophomore from Mobile came in second on the team in batting average at .408.  His 52 runs scored puts Drew at the top of the list in the conference.  He had the highest on base percentage on the team with .491 He is tied for most hits this season with Sam Hill at 58.

#Sam Hill# was selected for post-season honors after being named Freshman of the Year last season.  The sophomore catcher from Mobile is the only Panther to play and start in all 39 games this season.  Tied for the most hits on the team, Sam's slugging percentage (.716) was the highest of any Panther.

#Brandon Ricco# rounds out the Panther's position player honorees, making the list from second base.  Ricco hit .368 on the year in just 35 games.  He led the team in assists with 76 and had a .958 fielding percentage.

#Clay Malcolm# posted the most wins of any Panther hurler this season.  The Marietta, Ga. sophomore went 7-3 on the season in 11 appearances.  He even pitched a complete game against Greenville College back on March 6th, the Panthers only wire-to-wire performance on the year.

#Clay Jones# was named an honorable mention from the mound, rounding out the Panthers' selections this year.  The sophomore from Hoover collected a team-high five saves on the year and threw a
phenomenal 1.93 ERA in his conference appearances.
