BSC Baseball has tremendous success on the Diamond and in the Classroom in 2009

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - 2009 was a banner year for Birmingham-Southern Baseball. In only their second year of competing in Division III, with a team primarily consisting of sophomores, the Panthers won the SCAC Eastern Division championship and finished with a record of 29-11.

Six Panthers were named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, with 5 earning 1st Team honors. Catcher Sam Hill, the 2008 SCAC Freshman-of-the-Year, and OF Drew Leachman were also named to the ABCA All-South Region team. Hill was a first team member and Leachman garnered third team honors.

The Panthers also excelled in the classroom, posting a 3.05 team GPA for 2008-2009. Thirteen players earned SCAC All-Academic Team honors. 23 players earned a GPA of 3.0 and higher, and 7 of these players were named to the BSC Dean's List with a GPA above 3.5.
