Panthers down Arcadia 13-6

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Panthers scored six runs in the third inning en-route to a 13-6 win over the visiting Arcadia Knights.

BSC (4-1) scored in all but three innings today, collecting 13 runs on 17 hits. #Brian Higginbotham# drove in the first two runs in the second with a single up the middle scoring #Bruce Maxwell# and #Brandon Ricco#.

The Panthers did most of their business in the third. Back-to-back triples from #Drew Leachman# and #Sam Hill# set up the first two in the frame. Maxwell got a double in his turn at the plate driving in Ricco and #Josh Whitaker# extended the rally with a two-run homerun to clear the bases, putting ‘Southern up 7-0. Higginbotham followed with BSC’s third triple of the inning and scored on the next at-bat with a #Jon Walker# double.

After those two innings the Knights were left playing catch up. They got two in the top of the fourth, but the Panthers got one of them back in the bottom half and the other in the bottom of the fifth to keep the 8-run advantage, 10-2. Arcadia scored again in the top of the sixth, but the Panthers answered again with a three-run bottom of the inning, 13-3.

The two teams continued past the 10-run gap, finishing out the final two innings. Arcadia put their final three on the board in the top of the eighth setting the final score at 13-6.

Both Higginbotham and Whitaker had three RBI’s on the day, with Ricco and Higginbotham leading the way with three hits apiece. Arcadia committed five errors on the day the Panthers, while far from perfect, came in under that with four.

#Michael McCalib# collected the win for the panthers, moving his record to 2-0 in four innings of solid work. Zach Spece took the loss for Arcadia.

The Panthers will return to Striplin Field tomorrow for two games. The first is slated for 11:30 a.m. with the Mount St. Joseph Lions to be followed by a rematch with the Knights at 3:00.
