BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The BSC baseball team extended their winning streak to nine games today with a pair of wins over the visiting Wabash College Little Giants.
In game one the Panthers scored nine runs on nine hits to outpace the Little Giants 9-1. In another impressive offensive outing the Panthers hit three homeruns in the game. The first run scored off a #Brandon Ricco# single to center in the bottom of the first, driving in #J.D. Hulse# who led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
The next four runs were all driven in by two homeruns spanning the third and fourth innings. SCAC Offensive Player of the Week #Bruce Maxwell# collected his fourth round-tripper of the season in the third driving in #Sam Hill# and #Drew Leachman#. #Zac Stansell# scored the Panthers fifth run with a solo shot over the left field wall to lead off the Panthers’ fourth.
Maxwell helped the Panther cause again in the fifth with a double down the right field line, scoring Hill and giving the freshman his fourth RBI of the game.
The Panther scoring concluded in the sixth with more fireworks. Drew Leachman connected for a bases-clearing triple driving in #Jon Walker#. He was followed with another solo homerun this time from Sam Hill. Hill ended the game with two RBIs.
#Michael McCalib# got the start and the win in game one, going the full seven innings. He gave up seven hits and one run with seven strikeouts in 27 batters faced.
The second game was a high scoring affair for the Panthers as well. BSC plated 15 runs on 16 hits to bury Wabash in game two 15-2.
Four Panthers drove in multiple runs. Drew Leachman and Sam Hill both drove in three, Hill with a double to center in the second and Leachman with a solo homer in the fifth and a single in the sixth, scoring two. #Heath Haggard# and #Brian Higginbotham# each had two RBIs in the game. Higginbotham got his third homerun of the season in the fourth, scoring two, and Haggard singled to center in the sixth to score the Panthers’ final two of the game.
The Panthers put up runs in each of the six innings in which they batted, including a four-run second, a three-run fourth, and a five-run sixth.
#Jesse Meier# collected his second win of the season in the start, going six innings in the effort. He allowed six hits with seven strikeouts. Both Little Giant runs were scored in the top of the third off a homerun into the center field netting. #Brooks Webb# came on in the seventh to close things out, getting Wabash one-two-three in the inning.The Panthers will return to Striplin Field tomorrow for a split double header. Wabash will play Adrian College at 11:00 a.m. before a rematch with the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. The Panthers will then play a single with Adrian following at around 5:00 p.m.
