BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The BSC baseball team defeated Adrian College 10-1 today to take the series sweep of the 11th-ranked Bulldogs at Striplin Field.
The Panthers used any and every means necessary to dispatch the Bulldogs today to earn their 12th win of the season and their tenth straight at home to open the season.
‘Southern, again, posted two runs in the first to seize the early advantage. #Drew Leachman# doubled in #J.D. Hulse# and then got into scoring position himself with some heads-up base running as the Bulldogs attempted to get Hulse at the plate. #Brandon Ricco# brought him home two batters later despite hitting into a double play.
The Panthers held the 2-0 lead into the top of the fourth when Adrian got on the board thanks to a double by Alex Cowart. BSC responded in the bottom of the fifth with a five-run inning to put the game into cruise control.
Ricco scored the third Panther run with a single to left that plated J.D. Hulse. #Brian Higginbotham# came up with the bases loaded and hit a high sacrifice fly to center that allowed Leachman to score. It was #Josh Whitaker# who delivered the final blow with a three-run shot over the wall in left-center. The Panthers led 7-1.
They would tack on runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to reach the final 10-1 tally, but the Bulldogs were not able to answer the Panther run production. #John Narramore# remains perfect on the season with an unblemished 3-0 mark in the start. The senior from Vestavia went seven-and-a-third innings, giving up just three hits, two walks, and struck out seven Adrian batters in 29 faced.
The Panthers will return to Striplin Field tomorrow to close out the current six-game homestand against Berry College. The Vikings and Panthers will get underway at 6:00 p.m. at Striplin Field.
