BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Panthers rebounded from their game one loss by defeating DePauw 6-2 in game two of the three-game series tonight at Striplin Field.
The Panthers (15-3, 1-1) fell 6-1 in game one earlier today. The Tigers (8-6, 1-1) scored five runs in the top of the ninth to hand the Panthers the loss in the conference opener for both teams.
Game two was a return to form for the Panthers. They scored in all but the first inning of the seven-inning game to cruise to the victory.
#Brandon Ricco# tripled to lead off the second inning and scored on a single from #Bruce Maxwell#. In the third #J.D. Hulse# got his second home run of the season in the lead off position to put BSC up 2-0.
DePauw scored one of their two in the fourth, but the Panthers answered with two more of their own to go up 4-1. Hulse stole third and got home on the corresponding throw from the Tiger catcher that ended up in left field and #Drew Leachman# crossed thanks to another hit from Ricco.
#Brian Higginbotham# led off the Panther fifth with a single up the middle and was scored three batters later by #John Lawroski# to put the Panthers up 5-1.
The Tigers scored again in the sixth, but that run was also answered in the bottom half after Leachman led the inning with a double to right. He scored thanks to a single to left by #Stephen Denton#.
#Clay Malcolm# got his third win of the season, going all seven innings for the Panthers. He allowed seven hits, two runs, and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
The Panthers will return tomorrow for the final game of the three-game series with DePauw. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Striplin Field.
