BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern Panthers defeated DePauw today 4-1 following a two hour rain delay to improve to 16-3 on the season and 2-1 in SCAC play.
Both teams took some time to get going following the long delay. The Tigers got on the board first in the fourth inning off a Sam Linette single to right to put DePauw up 1-0. The Panthers answered in the home half of the inning with an infield hit to short from #John Lawroski# that plated the tying run in #Josh Whitaker#.
The Panthers scored the go-ahead, and ultimately the winning, run in the fifth when #Brian Higginbotham# found the gap through the right side to drive in #Drew Leachman#. Leachman crossed again in the seventh and drove in #J.D. Hulse# in the eighth for the Panthers' other two runs to finish the day with the 4-1 victory.
#John Naramore# got his fourth win of the season in the complete game from the mound. He gave up three hits and three walks in the effort, striking out 14 Tigers in 34 batters-faced.
The Panthers will head out on the road for their next four starting on Wednesday evening down in Montgomery as they face in-state rival Huntingdon College at 6:30. They will not return to Striplin Field until March 30 when they host Loyola University for a single game, again at 6:30.
