Panthers take series from Loyola with 7-1 win
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham-Southern baseball team swept Loyola University with a 7-1 win today at Striplin Field.
The Panthers (21-4) posted three runs in the bottom of the second and eased into their 21st win of the season. #Jon Walker# singled to left driving in #Josh Whitaker# and #Zac Stansell# to score BSC's first two, then #Steven Denton# lined one into left to plate Walker.
In the fifth, #Bruce Maxwell# struck again, this time with a two-run shot, again to left, for his second home run of the series and his ninth of the season to put the Panthers comfortably ahead 6-1.
Both Maxwell and Walker led the Panthers with two RBIs on the day, Walker in just two at-bats. #Jordan Burchette# gets his second win of the season in the start for the Panthers. The sophomore went three-and-two-thirds innings, allowing the Wolfpack's only run on two hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
The Panthers will return to Striplin Field this Friday to host the first game of a three-game set with Centre College. The Colonels and Panthers get underway at 3:00 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday with a double header starting at noon.
