MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 11 BSC Panthers took a makeup double-header from the Maryville Scots this afternoon.
It took BSC (30-4) a few innings to get going. After giving up a run to Maryville (19-13) in the first #Brian Higginbotham# drove a ball deep to right center to tie the game at one. #Jon Walker# doubled on the next at-bat and scored the go-ahead run two batters later.
Maryville tied the game again in the bottom half of the third, but #Sam Hill# gave the Panthers the lead for good in the top of the fourth with another homerun to right center to put BSC up 3-2.
Both teams scored again in the ninth inning to put the final of game one at 4-3. Hill drove in his second run of the game with a double to left that scored #J.D. Hulse#.
#Jesse Meier# got his sixth win of the season in the start, pitching five innings, allowing two Scot runs on six hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Game two saw a lot more offense. The Panthers did all of their business in the first five innings, including three home runs by three different batters to give BSC a big lead, 11-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. #Brandon Ricco#, #J.D. Hulse#, and #Bruce Maxwell# each hit a two-run shot in the first, second, and fourth innings to build the Panther lead.
The Scots had time to get back into things in the back half of the seven-inning game. They scored one in the fourth, two in the fourth and fifth, and then five in the bottom of the ninth to close to within two runs of the Panthers but were unable to complete the comeback.
#Anthony Bianchi# got his first decision of the season in the start, going four innings allowing one run on four hits, with two walks, and striking out five.
The SCAC East Division Champion Panthers will travel over to Atlanta over the weekend for their final conference series of the season. They will meet the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels for three starting on Saturday with a double header. Game one starts at 2:00 p.m. Central.
