Panthers win first two at Oglethorpe

Game 1 | Game 2

ATLANTA – The No. 11 Panthers took the first two games of the final conference series of the year, 16-5 and 15-2 at Oglethorpe.

In game one the Panthers (32-4, 13-1 SCAC) scored ten runs in the top of the seventh to put things out of reach of the Petrels (19-19, 7-7 SCAC).  Oddly enough, BSC managed to score all but two of their 16 runs without the long ball.  The only home run of the game, in fact, was hit at the end of the 10-run seventh.  #Brandon Ricco# drove in two with a shot to right.  He led the Panthers with six RBI in the game, a season-high for any Panther.

#J.D. Hulse# added three RBI while #Drew Leachman# and #Sam Hill# posted two apiece, and #Bruce Maxwell#, #Jon Walker#, and #Steven Denton# had one run driven in to their lines.  The Panthers collected 20 hits to the Petrels’ 10.

#John Naramore# improved his perfect record to 7-0 with the win and complete game.  He posted 10 strikeouts and just two walks in the seven innings of work.

Game two the offense was more evenly spread but equally as productive.  The Panthers scored in all but the first and fifth innings to walk away with a sweep in their final double header of the season.

#Josh Whitaker# provided the fireworks with a solo home run to lead off the second to score the Panthers’ first run.  #Brandon Ricco# continued his hot hitting, again leading the way with four RBI,  Maxwell and Whitaker and #Heath Haggard# had two RBI apiece, Haggards’ two coming off the bench.  Leachman, Hill, #John Lawroski#, and #Jacob Plagens# rounded out the Panther scoring with one run each.

#Clay Malcom# improves his record to 6-1 with a complete game to his credit.  He threw the full seven for ‘Southern with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Panthers will close out this series, and their SCAC schedule, with a single game tomorrow afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for noon Central.
