Baseball selected to win SCAC Eastern Division in preseason poll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern baseball team has been voted to finish first in the SCAC Eastern Division in the 2011 Preseason Poll, the league office announced today.

In exclusive voting by the conference's head coaches, BSC received 35 total votes and five first-place votes, beating out Rhodes College to land atop the Eastern Division standings. Trinity was selected to be the overall conference winner. Click

In 2010, BSC won the outright SCAC Conference championship, going 14-1 in conference play. The Panthers finished the overall season 34-5, one of the top records in SCAC history. They also climbed into the top 10 in the national rankings, finishing the year ranked eighth in the country and first in the South Region, while rising as high as sixth, and received votes in both polls for the number one spot.

The Panthers open the 2011 season tomorrow in San Antonio, taking on Schreiner University at noon. They open their home slate on Saturday, Feb. 12, against Maryville College at 1 p.m. at Striplin Field.
