SAN ANTONIO, Texas—After going 2-0 yesterday, the No. 9 Birmingham-Southern baseball team suffered its first defeat of the season today at the hands of No. 19 Trinity University, 10-2 in San Antonio. Both teams move to 2-1 after today’s game.
Trinity went up 4-0 on the Panthers before BSC finally got on the board in the top of the fourth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. The Tigers added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, going up 6-1, but the Panthers answered with another run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by sophomore Bruce Maxwell.
The Tigers increased their lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the seventh, and then 10-2 in the bottom of the eighth; BSC was unable to score again in the game.
Trinity out-hit BSC, 15-5. Five different Panthers had single hits each.
The Panthers open their home slate next weekend with a two-game series against Maryville College, Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 13, at 12:30 p.m.
