NEW ORLEANS—The No. 9 Birmingham-Southern baseball team out-hit Loyola-New Orleans 15-5 today to win, 9-3, for their ninth straight victory. The Panthers now stand at 11-1, while the Wolfpack falls to 6-13 after the three-game sweep.
Loyola scored twice in the bottom of the first, but BSC immediately answered with four runs in the top of the second. The Wolfpack scored their final run in the bottom of the third before BSC added a single run in the top of the fourth and four in the top of the sixth for the 9-3 win.
Senior Drew Leachman and sophomore John Lawroski both led BSC with three hits apiece, Leachman going 3-of-4 and Lawroski going 3-of-5. Leachman also led with four RBIs.
Junior Jesse Meier was the winning pitcher for the Panthers after starting and throwing six innings, giving up four hits and one earned run with one strikeout. Richard Vance, Anthony Bianchi, and Michael McCalib also pitched one inning each to finish out the game.
The Panthers return home next weekend, hosting North Park University and Berry College on Saturday at noon and 6:30 p.m., and then facing North Park again on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
