BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The No. 9 Birmingham-Southern baseball team moved to 14-3 on the season this evening with an 8-4 win against LaGrange College at Striplin Field.
The teams traded runs in the first inning, and the score remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth, when LaGrange scored twice to go up 3-1. But BSC answered in the bottom of the fifth with five runs courtesy of an RBI double by senior Sam Hill, a two-RBI double by sophomore Jon Walker, and a two-RBI single by sophomore John Lawroski.
BSC added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI single by sophomore Bruce Maxwell and an RBI ground-out by senior Brandon Ricco, and LaGrange scored a single run in the top of the eighth for the final score of the game.
Junior Jordan Burchett started on the mound and pitched three innings, and senior Michael McCalib (1-1) came in for the next three innings and got the win. Seniors Richard Vance, Drew Crofton, and Clay Jones all saw action as well in the final three innings.
Hill and senior Drew Leachman each recorded three of the Panthers' 12 hits, while LaGrange had 11 total hits.
The Panthers open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend, taking on Centre College in Danville, Ky.
