DANVILLE, Ky.—With an 8-1 win today, the No. 9 Birmingham-Southern baseball team swept the three-game conference series against Centre College in Danville, Ky., to move to 17-3 overall and 3-0 in the SCAC.
BSC scored all eight of its runs in the first two innings, getting two in the top of the first on a two-RBI double by sophomore Bruce Maxwell, and six in the top of the second. The six runs came from a run scored on an error, a two-run home run by senior JD Hulse, an RBI double by senior Sam Hill, an RBI single by senior Brandon Ricco, and another run scored on a Centre error.
The Colonels scored their lone run in the bottom of the third, and the rest of the game was scoreless for both teams.
Junior Jordan Burchett (3-1) started on the mound and got the win, pitching five innings and giving up two hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. Seniors Michael McCalib, Alex Goodsell, Drew Crofton, and freshman Lewis Hammond all came in after Burchett for one inning each.
Hulse and Ricco led the Panthers with three hits each; the Panthers recorded 10 total hits to Centre’s five.
The Panthers return home next weekend for a three-game series against Rhodes. Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s single game both begin at 1 p.m.
