BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With an 8-2 win today at Striplin Field, the 22nd-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Centre to remain undefeated in the SCAC at 9-0.
The Panthers move to 24-6 overall with their sixth straight win.
BSC scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning when freshman Zach Wagner doubled down the right field line to drive in two runs. The Panthers added three more in the bottom of the third courtesy of an RBI double down the right field line by sophomore Austin Justice and a two-RBI single to left field by freshman Trey Chambers.
The Panthers went up 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth when they scored on a Centre error, and the Colonels finally got on the board in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs on an RBI single by Cameron Fishman.
The Panthers recorded 11 total hits, led by Chambers and senior Jon Walker who were both 2-3 and Maxwell who was 2-4.
Freshman Paul Caudill started on the mound and threw 4.1 innings, giving up four hits and both earned runs with four strikeouts. Junior Blake Yance came in for the next 3.2 innings and got the win to move to 5-0 on the season, giving up three hits with two strikeouts, and freshman David Bourbonnais finished the last inning, getting one strikeout.
The Panthers go on the road for their next three games, beginning with a non-conference date against LaGrange this Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. ET.
