Baseball gets commitment from infielder Nathan Qualls

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Nathan Qualls, a 2012 graduate of Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, Tenn., will join the Birmingham-Southern baseball program for the upcoming 2012-13 season.

Qualls is a shortstop and second-baseman who received numerous baseball honors over the course of his high school career at ECS. In 2011 he was named to the All-District Team and was an Honorable Mention selection for the All-Region Team. In 2012 he led or was second on his team in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (.405), on-base percentage (.518), and batting average with runners in scoring position (.632). In 2012 Qualls was named an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American and named to the State Farm All-Star Game.

In addition to his success on the field, Qualls was a four-year member of both the Dean's List and the President's list at ECS. He was involved in the Service Leadership Institute and Fellowship of Christian athletes and served as Vice President for his school's National Honor Society Chapter.

"Nathan is a good young player and has the talent to compete for playing time in his freshman year," Head Coach Jan Weisberg said. "He is smart and mature, two attributes that will serve him well as a young player in the middle infield."
