Millsaps College Hands BSC Second Straight Loss

DEMOREST, Ga. – Millsaps College (1-2) totaled 20 hits and took advantage of five Birmingham-Southern (2-2) errors en route to a 21-5 win Saturday at the Piedmont Spring Classic at Loudermilk Field.

Birmingham-Southern got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Taylor McCracken walked to open the inning and later scored on a throwing error and Jacob Mayfield scored on a passed ball.

Millsaps scored the six runs of the game, scoring three in the bottom of the first, and one run in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead.

The Panthers scored three runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 6-5. McGill singled home Mayfield and Evan Grovenstein and Ethan Netherton delivered an RBI triple.

Millsaps answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fifth and then added three in the sixth and seen in the seventh.

Keith Shumak went 4-for-6 with four RBI and Samuel Doucess  went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead Millsaps offensively.  Issac Glen was 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored Kevin Wall had a pair of hits and three RBI.

Ralls Pennington started and was chased from the game after giving up six runs, four earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts as BSC's pitcher of record.  West Hammond (2-0) picked up the win for the Majors with three strikeouts.

BSC closes out the weekend against Piedmont College on Sunday at 3 p.m.
